Sujit Choudhry Founded The Center For Constitutional Transitions To Help Build Better Constitutions

Sujit Choudhry is the Founding Director for the Center for Constitutional Transitions where he has been serving as a constitutional expert for years. He has found it best to listen to the needs of the people on the ground where he will be helping to formulate policies rather than simply stepping in and thinking you know what they need. He believes that one of the main challenges involved with being a constitutional expert who serves a global audience is to understand different points of view that may be completely different than the way that Americans see it.

Sujit Choudhry helped found the Center for Constitutional Transitions because he saw that there was a need to put together a knowledge base for writing new constitutions (constitutionaltransitions.org). He found that while there was a lot of information about constitutional transitions, there could be a lot more. When he fully realized that there was a lack of current information and research, he wanted to put together an organization that would serve to function for this purpose.

Sujit Choudhry has been working as a constitutional expert for more than two decades, and he is the Director of the Center for Constitutional Transitions. There, he helps the organization to develop and manage knowledge that helps countries to build constitutions or transition into new phases of the constitution they are already working with (http://sujitchoudhry.com/advisory-work/).  By providing evidence-based policy options for the people who will need to make the final decisions about their country’s constitution, he helps to change the world for the better. Choudhry also works with a spread of other organizations on collective research projects which are expected to produce new policy options.

Sujit Choudhry has earned law degrees from Harvard, Oxford, and Toronto, and was also a Rhodes Scholar. He has published more than ninety articles and has either written or contributed to many different books (medium.com). He serves with the Executive Committee of the International Society of Public Law as a member and is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Journal of Constitutional Law. His knowledge and expertise has made him a highly sought-after speaker who has made appearances in countries all over the world, and he continues to enlighten, educate, and work with countries to build superb constitutions.

Asked as to what the idea behind the Center is and what led him into establishing it. According to Sujit Choudhry, the Center for Constitutional Transitions was needed to support the constitution building of government networks internationally. And as his work progressed he realized that there is inadequate research that pertains to the efficiency of constitutional advice. So to fill the gap, The Center for Constitutional Transitions has been established.

Choudhry revealed that having a law degree from 3 different countries and being an immigrant he has an extensive perception of political and legal environments. In relation to his profession, he explained that America must learn from the failure and success of other democratic countries around the world since its democratic exceptionalism has been undermined.  Related article on blogs.law.nyu.edu.

Choudhry goes on to encourage individuals to listen and be responsive. People must learn how to see things from the viewpoint of others, and do not presume to know the truth. It is likewise essential he said that it is not healthy to have fixed ideas about things because if they do not pan out as you expect them, then you will be disappointed. The trick is to use every failing opportunity to learn and come up with something better. Continuous reinvention is the primary way to achieve goals in order to succeed.

Looking back, Choudhry said that the best accomplishment he has ever done without realizing it was bringing the experts together that created a network of global knowledge.

He is a professional lawyer who is recognized internationally for his expertise on comparative constitutional law and politics (constitutionaltransitions.org).  His unparalleled experience and know-how in the said fields paved the way for him to be an advisor for the constitution building procedures in countries like Yemen, Ukraine, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Nepal, Libya, Jordan, and Egypt.  For more details about the Professor, click on http://sujitchoudhry.com/about/

Sujit Choudhry Sharing His Views on How to Revive Ukraine from Political and Social Unrest

Sujit Choudhry is a globally recognized figure in the world of law, and his expertise on the comparative constitutional law is unmatched. He has spoken on comparative law in many international events and is trying hard to spread the awareness about the importance of comparative law worldwide. He believes that comparative constitutional law can make way to resolve many of the world conflicts.  For views and insights from him, click this useful link.

Sujit Choudhry was invited to the conference held in Kiev, Ukraine recently to share his expertise on comparative law as to what can be done to put the country back on track. It is a well-known fact that Ukraine has been entangled in social, political, and financial crisis for the last many years. Thousands of people have lost their lives due to the political and social unrest in the country, giving rise to almost civil war kind of situation. The rebels have taken up arms against the state forces, and the population of the country has lost trust on the government. To keep up-to-date with his latest work, check researchgate.net

Sujit Choudhry said at the conference that the main reason why Ukraine is in its current state is that the country has followed the semi-presidential system for many years. For any country to have a robust and decisive leadership, it has to have a leader. However, with the semi-presidential system, the country’s leadership and its power have been diluted. It led to many political conflicts internally that eventually surfaced and caused tension and panic among the country’s population as well. Sujit Choudhry said that Ukraine is in dire need of constitutional reforms as it is what would help in bringing power back to the government and gain the trust of its people. He believes that many of the legal changes are needed in its electoral process as well, which so far has not been transparent as per public’s judgment.   Blogs.law.nyu.edu provides related articles worth reading.

Sujit Choudhry also added to his conclusion that Ukraine does not have any one single major political party that has the power to make a government or has the full support of its people. It is for this reason; the country has been facing political and social unrest for so long.  To read more about the professor, visit his website, hop over to sujitchoudhry.com.
