MiniVan manager: the new canvasing method used by NGP VAN
NGP VAN is now using a new way of canvassing. The new process is by using an online application called MiniVan. The previous process was going door to door and talking to each voter as well as residents of the particular state. This method was genuinely useful in the communication of the residents and the team. It had a setback of using a lot of paperwork as well as a tremendous amount of time was used in entering the data of these supporters and residents to the system of the organization. This method also lacked accountability that is required in a sound field program.
NGP VAN adopted a new method of canvassing by using the MiniVan application. By utilizing the MiniVan application and MiniVan manager, the process is paperless as no information is recorded manually by pen and paper. The process has a higher accountability rate as compared to the previous method. The process is also integrated into the system used by NGP VAN in their operations.
The organizers in NGP VAN can merely access the list of supporters and send the canvas to the individual through their smartphones or any electronic device owned by the individual. When the canvasser opens the application the map will populate or be filled with targeted houses from the designated area. These houses have the specific residents who are supporters of that particular candidate. The canvasser is expected to follow the instructions provided in the screen and answer the questions asked in real time to the canvas data at the organization.
It is advised for those who are serious with canvasing then it is required for the user to add MiniVan Manager to the campaign. After adding the manager, the individual will have unlocked a real-time dashboard of canvas information for data storage and analysis back to NGP VAN. Accountability of the candidate’s field program, on social media, can be improved with real-time canvasser location as well as stacks. In case of any confusion and consultation is required, a specialist from the organization can be contacted. This information was given by Katie Crowell who is the community manager for the organization.
